This example of the Model 1832 foot artillery sword is dated 1834. It is one of 900 swords delivered by Ames that year to complete a contract for 2000 Sword’s dated February 21, 1833. The sword is marked as the early model 1832s were. It has an eagle with the NP Ames name and Springfield address on one side, and United States and the year on the opposite side. It has the inspection marks on the guard face of J.A. and S. B. This sword also has the hilt marked S Hughes, Newburyport.
